Information for Successful Candidates

Message from CPA Western School of Business CEO, Steve Vieweg, FCPA, FCMA

Passing the Common Final Examination and completing the CPA Professional Education Program you are significant accomplishments on your way to becoming a CPA. Everyone at the CPA Western School of Business is proud of you and on their behalf, I extend warm congratulations. In the coming days you will be recognized and be celebrated, though perhaps a little differently than in past years. The attention is well earned and I hope you enjoy it.

If you haven't already, you will soon begin thinking about completing your term of practical experience and applying for membership with a provincial CPA body so you can add the CPA designation to your name. Should you need any assistance as you move from being a School candidate to a member, School and provincial CPA body staff are available to help you.

I hope you will consider contributing to the education of students and candidates who seek to follow in your footsteps. The CPA certification program is made possible by the hard work of hundreds of dedicated people who work as facilitators and session leaders; School and provincial staff; and others who develop and deliver CPA education across Canada. You will hear from us soon with opportunities to get involved and we sincerely hope you think about being a part of the team that helps to deliver the education you have just finished.

First, however, this is your moment. Take time to celebrate your accomplishments.

Practical Experience

In addition to successfully completing the CPA Professional Education Program (CPA PEP) modules and the Common Final Examination (CFE), candidates need to complete a term of relevant practical experience, including development of required competencies, to be eligible for membership with a provincial CPA body.

CPA practical experience is administered by the provincial bodies. For assistance, please contact the provincial bodies directly:

  • British Columbia and Yukon: cpabcper@bccpa.ca
  • Alberta: practicalexperience@cpaalberta.ca
  • Saskatchewan: practicalexperience@cpask.ca
  • Manitoba: practicalexperience@cpamb.ca
  • Northwest Territories and Nunavut: practicalexperience@cpaalberta.ca

Application for Membership

Candidates who have successfully completed all three days of the CFE and the practical experience requirements (PER) should initiate an application for membership with their respective provincial accounting body. Each province will have the relevant forms and information regarding application for membership and convocation on their provincial website.

  • CPABC and CPA Yukon
  • CPA Alberta
  • CPA Saskatchewan
  • CPA Manitoba
  • CPA Northwest Territories/Nunavut

Re-mark Requests and PARs

Candidates who are successful with depth in Assurance (role) but who failed on depth in Financial Reporting and are interested in requesting a re-mark of their result can access detailed information about those processes here. Candidates who were successful other than those noted above cannot request a re-mark of their results.
